Large-screen smartphones - as opposed to the more cut-down 'feature phones' - are much more popular now. I just read a couple of days ago that the iPhone has sold over 2 million units now and Android phones seem to be selling in large numbers too, although I don't know what the OS update situation is like in Korea. So there is greater choice, but I don't feel it's as much as there is outside Korea.

I also believe the Internet cost situation may have improved because of some government legislation and increasing competitiveness between the providers as more and more people become true smartphone users. I'm looking at phones again because my wife wants a new one so I may well put up another phone post within the next couple of months. As ever though, I'm not trying to be authoritative - it's just the situation as I experience it.Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15349691823513127693noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-268789363253190247.post-41042155993284878092011-01-25T04:39:49.202+09:002011-01-25T04:39:49.202+09:00June, from SKT, is its proprietary video sharing w...June, from SKT, is its proprietary video sharing website, in the same vane as YouTube or Pandora.

I have to say, i'm disappointed in this article, I thought getting a new phone in Korea would be as exhilarating an experience as it is in Japan (...)

If only you were not such an articulate writer, I'd happily write this off as Anglo arrogance, but your clearly not :(Jukechsthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03592678479354635363noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-268789363253190247.post-70320332213427221252010-03-09T11:44:56.314+09:002010-03-09T11:44:56.314+09:00Thanks for the information Curtis - it might be so...Thanks for the information Curtis - it might be something worth looking into for next time. One issue might be after-sales service though. Recently we had a problem with one of our phones and because it's a Samsung we could just take it to the nearest Samsung service centre about a mile away. It could prove much harder to deal with a Sony Ericsson or Nokia problem.Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15349691823513127693noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-268789363253190247.post-49527024437154838062010-03-09T03:27:39.084+09:002010-03-09T03:27:39.084+09:00Actually, this would be far to late a post for you...Actually, this would be far to late a post for you, Mike, but (I haven't confirmed this) it seems that you can use a European or US model phone on Korean networks as long as they are placed in Roaming mode. However, this usually jacks up the charges, but if you find a good SIM card dealer with good call rates, it seems you can save a fair deal of money that way, although Koreans would then have to dial an international number to reach you. At least you'd have great selection.Curtishttp://loveandsoju.comnoreply@blogger.com
