My wife and I were waiting for an elevator when a little girl next to us, she must have been all of about six years old, said, ‘waegug-saram... anyoung’. ‘Anyoung’. ‘Anyoung waegug-saram’. Foreigner... hello. Hello. Hello foreigner. It was all smiles. Then she turned to my wife, and in a serious and surprisingly mature tone asked “Why did you marry a foreigner? Is it because you couldn’t get a Korean man?”

OMG.
I thought that was unappropriated
but then again, she probably doesn't know any better.
Ouch. That must have been a surprise to your wife. Did the child get a "loveis beyond race, colour, and creed" speech?
The other day a Korean boy about 8 started talking to my girlfriend about how she had a white boyfriend. He was very polite, almost too polite in my opinion, and we eventually convinced him that I was born and raised in Korea, and that's why I speak Korean.
The elevator came immediately, and I entered oblivious, and my wife speechless. But had I immediately understood, I'm sure I wouldn't have known what to say in response as well.
From the mouths of children...
You should have said, "You will know after your first time in a love motel with a Korean man".
xD
